What is IVF In-virto fertilization?
IVF also known as invertofertilization is a fertility
treatment in which sperms and eggs are combined in a laboratory . The eggs are
collected at the point of the maturation and are fertilized in the Lab with the
husbands sperms. A few days later, the embryos are transferred to the uterus to
initiate the pregnancy.
What does the process involve or how does an IVF cycle
proceed?
Near the start of your menstrual cycle many different
injections/medicines are taken which will assist or enhance the body’s
reproductive process. When your eggs also known as follicles have reached an
appropriate stage of development, they will be retrived using an ultrasound
guided aspiration needle. These eggs are then fertilized with your husbands/partners
sperms in IVF laboratory. A few days later, an appropriate number of fertilized
eggs (embryos) will be transferred to the uterus to initiate pregnancy.
How much time does an IVF cycle take?
It takes about two weeks the eggs to be ready for retrieval,
then you and your partner will have to spent about half a day in the clinic
having your eggs retrieved and fertilized. You will again be called after two
to five days to transfer your embryos back into your uterus. A pregnancy test
will be conducted about two weeks later to determine if an embryo has implanted
and is developing.
